How to Learn AI as a Beginner: A Free Path
New to AI? A plain, step-by-step path, from what AI is to where it fits in your business.
Most people try an AI chat once, get a decent answer, and stop there. If you want to learn AI for beginners the right way, go in order: first what AI is, then how to talk to it, then how to use it on your own material, safely, on work that matters to your business.
That’s the path the free vDesktop Foundation course follows. You can read the steps below on your own, or start the free Foundation course and build each step as you go. Free account required.
Step 1: Learn AI for beginners by starting with what it is
Before you type anything, it helps to know the parts. There are many kinds of AI, and the one you chat with is a language model inside an app. There is also a real difference between a chatbot that answers and an agent that acts. Once you know which part is which, you can hear an overblown claim for what it is.
It also helps to know what AI is good and bad at, so you neither trust it with everything nor quit after one bad answer. This step ends with why the course sticks with one assistant and agents, instead of hopping between tools.
Step 2: Learn to talk to AI well
Start with one useful conversation about a real question from your work. A first answer is a first draft. The value shows up when you tell it what was missing.
Then learn the two habits that matter most. Give it context, or let it ask you questions first, so the answer fits. And check the work, so you know which parts to rely on and which to verify.
Step 3: Bring in your own material
AI gets far more useful when it works on your material instead of a blank page. This step covers bringing in documents and images, getting real files back out, and doing research with sources you can check.
Step 4: Stay safe and in control
Two decisions come before anything else. What you keep private, and never paste in. And how much you let AI do on its own, versus what it drafts for you to approve.
Step 5: Find where AI fits in your business
This is where learning turns into results. Find the repeat work in your week, then measure what AI actually saved you. Once you can see that, you’ll start to spot the same work in someone else’s business too.
Step 6: Pick your path
The Foundation course ends with two paths: use agents yourself, or offer them to others.
Two optional lessons sit alongside the main path: using voice and the mobile app, and building a one-page tool you can share.
Where to go next
Foundation gets you using Claude for everyday work. The Masterclass is where you build with it.
If you want to keep going, the paid AI Masterclass, Build, Deploy and Sell with Claude, picks up where Foundation leaves off: your workspace, your first agent, skills, connections, and jobs that run themselves. Then you learn to find and win clients and deploy for them, with you deciding how far each AI employee goes.
